A young actor who starred in the Oscar-winning "Moonlight" — playing a withdrawn gay teen — as well as in the TV series "Wu-Tang: An American Saga", 23-year-old Ashton Sanders has been praised for his powerful and tender portrayals. The Los Angeles native initially left his MFA programme to take a leap of faith in the cut-throat world of acting, rapidly rising as one of Hollywood's most exciting up-and-comers.
Now, as part of his creative process, whenever Sanders takes on a role he has to feel a certain form of connection to his character. "Every role that you see me in is based on particularity. There has to be a part that I am viscerally connected to. There has to be," enthuses Sanders. "Am I often fully moved by a script the way I was with Moonlight? Absolutely not."
For MATCHESFASHION, Sanders taps into his personal thoughts, reflecting on his journey of self-discovery.
