The year-end parties may not be in full swing in many places around the world, but nonetheless, for many the festive occasion is still a time to sparkle — metaphorically or otherwise. Traditionally, it is also a time when beauty brands offer limited edition makeup palettes or even special versions of perennial favourites. While intended mainly as presents, they can just as easily be gifts to oneself, thanks to their enticing packaging.
Sisley’s Ecological Compound is a cult skincare product that continues to be a favourite among men and women alike for its light and non-greasy texture and pleasant fragrance. Formulated with a blend of plants, including ginseng, rosemary, hops and horsetail, this is not just a revitalising hydrator, it also helps the skin fight against environmental stress caused by things like pollution and cigarette smoke. It can be used as an aftershave or even a primer, leaving a fresh, matte complexion from which to work. This year, the brand is working with the Polish artist and painter Elzbieta Radziwell, who adorned both the glass bottle and packaging with strokes of bright and bold colour to capture an autumnal vista of red and gold shrubs.
The brand Chantecaille frequently combines beauty with philanthropy and this year is no exception. Partnering with the charity Space For Giants, which focuses on the protection of the habitats of elephants on the African continent, the brand has launched the Walk For Giants Safari Collection Eye Trio. Featuring the gentle giants themselves embossed on each eyeshadow (as well as on the packaging), the three suede-textured shades have just the tiniest hint of sparkle. The colours include a soft taupe, a bold copper and a burnished gold, shades that are subtle enough for everyday use.
The luxury makeup brand Clé de Peau Beauté always pulls out all the stops when it comes to embellishing their holiday makeup offerings. This year, the theme is “Enchanted Lake” and the Luminizing Face Enhancer has been given a swan-inspired makeover. The swan queen appears on the faceted packaging while the luminising iridescent powders inside have been updated with new, limited shades of icy blue, pale pink and light purple that will lend a light glow when applied.
For the brand Fenty Beauty, shimmer is part of its vocabulary, so much so that it has created the Diamond Bomb specifically to highlight both the face and body with a fine, 3D sparkle. The highlighter has a jelly-powder formula that feels bouncy and melts into the skin, and can be dusted on with the brand’s face and kabuki brush for more professional application. The limited edition shade, Rosé Rave, is a dusty pink with serious sparkle. Just a small amount is needed for a big impact.
